DeltaHacks is McMaster’s annual student hackathon for change. We want to encourage students in all fields of study to come together to build real world applications that create positive change. The difference between DeltaHacks and other hackathons is that we embrace elements of design thinking to make “hacks” that solve real world problems.
The ultimate goal behind this hackathon is to include, not only the engineering and computer science students, but all talented individuals from all backgrounds to collaborate, create, and bring ideas to life. We want you to shoot for the stars.
DeltaHacks is McMaster's annual student hackathon. This year, DeltaHacks will be a 500-participant event taking place late January. We hope to inspire students to hack for positive changes that align with their passions - whether it's environment, health, inequality, education, etc. And hence the name “delta” - as “Δ” stands for change.
We love first time hackers! We will be providing mentors during the hackathon and running workshops. You can even read on one of our execs' experience when she started here to see how easy and fun it really is to learn at the hackathon.
DeltaHacks will take place on late January (date coming soon), at our beautiful McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Don't worry! We will walk you through how to generate great ideas at the beginning of DeltaHacks.
All university students! If you're someone who is willing to learn and wants to take a shot at changing the world, no matter what your field is, you definitely belong here.
Nothing! Zero! The event is absolutely free for all participants. We will provide you with the venue, food, Wi-Fi, etc. You just need to show up.
Once the idea generation is done, there will be an open mic and networking time to find a team. Everyone accepted will also be invited to the DeltaHacks' Slack prior to the hackathon in order to discuss ideas.
You will definitely need your laptop, phone, their chargers, as well as a valid student or government ID. Feel free to also bring along a sleeping bag, and we recommend some comfortable clothes.
The deadline is December 15th at 11:59 PM!
We will send buses to University of Waterloo and University of Toronto Saint George campus! However, for people traveling from else where, although we would love to have you, we won't be able to provide individual travel reimbursement.
We strictly abide by MLH's code of conduct, and all participants agree to abide by it. More information can be found here:

By default, all intellectual property created at DeltaHacks VI belongs to the student team, and the team agrees that any member of the team has the right to continue to develop the ideas and software either individually or as a group. Corporate Challengers may require a different disposition of intellectual property, but only if they have prior approval in writing from DeltaHacks IV for the agreement to which they are asking students to agree. Where there are commercial possibilities for any project, it is recommended that the parties involved agree in writing on the sharing of the financial returns.
